Taylor Powers Bloomsburg Softball to Doubleheader Sweep over West Chester

BLOOMSBURG - Alyson Taylor (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) had four hits and knocked in four runs to lead the Bloomsburg University softball team to a doubleheader sweep against West Chester in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match-up on Monday afternoon. The Huskies took game one 8-0 and game two 5-2.

In game one, Bloomsburg exploded for eight runs off of 12 hits with the Huskies taking an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Taylor's three-run homerun in the bottom of the fourth pushed the lead to 7-0 and the Huskies added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to secure the five-inning victory.

Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Mifflinburg) and Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) had the other hot bats for Bloomsburg in the game. Corliss was 2-2 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored while Reed singled twice and scored two runs.

PSAC Pitcher of the Week Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) picked up the win, allowing only three hits while striking out three and walking one.

In game two, both teams were scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when Kaitlyn Connors hit an 0-2 pitch into center field for a pinch-hit single that scored two for the Golden Rams.

West Chester held the 2-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Huskies broke through with a run off of a Reed double. Lisa Bohner (Northumberland/Shikellamy) tied the game at two with an RBI single and Taylor, Melissa Bachert (Coplay/Parkland), and Stacy Krupiewski (Trooper/Methacton) each added RBI singles to give the Huskies the 5-2 advantage.

Reed retired the next six West Chester batters in order to seal the win for the Huskies. In seven innings, of work she allowed two runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking two.

With the wins, Bloomsburg improves to 31-13 (14-6 PSAC East) on the season and will play at Millersville tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. West Chester falls to 20-13 (3-16 PSAC East) for the year.
